First Grade Weekly Homework #24: March 5-9, 2018:

Sight Words: live, me, back, give, most (Practice reading words to know them by sight.) 

Sounds:  r-controlled vowels er, ir, and ur (fern, third, churn, etc…) (Practice these sounds.  Spell and read words with new and past letter sounds.) 

Reading:  First grade student reads aloud to family every day. (About 15 minutes a day.) Students read the story, Peacock and Crane, answer the questions, and return on Friday.  Read and reread the other stories attached to the homework. (Keep these stories at home.) Family reads aloud to student.  Enjoy your reading time together. J. 

Spelling:  her, fern, girl, sir, stir, bird, fur, hurt, turn, third (The test is on Friday, Mar.9.) 

Math: Practice sums and differences written both horizontally and vertically.  Count, read, and write numbers 1-120.  Count to 100 by ones, tens, and fives.  Work on ordering and sequencing numbers, writing numbers before, after, and between to 120. Compare numbers to 120: (<,>,=) less than, greater than, equal to. Add/subtract 10, 20, 30, etc…to/from a number (30+40=?, 60-10=?, 50+20=?...).

Writing:  The student writes, in pencil, complete, related sentences on a topic of his/her choice.  Fill the page. 

Skill of the Week: 
Be a hero to someone this week.  Remember, heroes do brave or good things for others.  Be an upstander; hold the door for someone; let others go first, etc…  J
