First Grade Weekly  Homework #31: April 30-May 4, 2018

Sight Words:  also, around, farm, three, small (Practice reading words to know them by sight.) 

Sounds:  suffixes –ful, -ly, -y and long vowel spelling patterns a, e, i, o, u (icy, truthful, safely, squeaky, hopeful, etc…) Practice these sounds.  Spell and read words with new and past letter sounds.

Reading:  First grade student reads aloud to family every day. (About 15 minutes a day.) Students read the story, Sick Day, answer the questions, and return on Friday.  Read and reread the other stories attached to the homework. (Keep these stories at home.) Family reads aloud to student.  Enjoy your reading time together. J.

Spelling: sad, sadly, slow, slowly, dust, dusty, trick, tricky, help, helpful (The test is on Friday, May 4.). 

Math:  Have your son/daughter use a ruler to measure things using inches and centimeters. Work on coin identification and count coins.  Have your son/daughter group coins for effective counting.  Sort and “graph” the coins.  Compare groups (ex. There are 2 more pennies than dimes…) Work on telling time to the hour, half hour, and quarter hour. 

Writing: Student writes, in pencil, on a topic of his/her choice.  Fill the page. J 

Skill of the Week:  Be an active listener—look at the person who is talking to you.  J
