First Grade Weekly Homework #16

Sight Words:  him, into, time, has, look  (Practice reading words to know them by sight.)


Sounds: long a/magic e spellings a_e (_ake, _ame, _ane, _ave, _ade, _ake, etc…), ce and ci (sounds like /s/), ge, gi, and dge (sounds like /j/) (Practice these sounds.  Spell and read words with new and past letter sounds.)


Reading:  First grade student reads aloud to family every day. (About 15 minutes a day.) Students read the story, Jake’s Best Race, answer the questions, and return on Friday.  Read and reread the other stories attached to the second part of this homework. (Keep these attached stories at home.) Family reads aloud to student.  Enjoy your reading time together. 


Spelling: came, make, brave, late, gave, shape  (Spelling Test on Jan. 10)


Writing:  The student writes, in pencil, three or more sentences about his/her Winter Break vacation. Check for correct capitalization, punctuation, spacing, spelling of basic words/sight words, etc…


Skill of the Week:  Each day compliment someone (family member, school friend, …) about something.
