Making Good Choices: Too Good for Violence:
We wrapped up our unit on “Too Good for Violence” this week.  FDS first graders have been recognized as “peaceable people” who know how to be polite and kind, solve problems respectfully, treat everyone fairly, and appreciate similarities and differences in each other!  Way to go, first graders!

Upcoming Grandparents/Special Person Day: Tuesday June 4:
Grandparents/special persons are invited to join their grandchild/student for lunch on Tuesday, June 4. Our first grade lunch is from 11:15-11:45—that includes recess.  Come enjoy a picnic style lunch with your grandchild/student.  Families are welcome to participate. Bring your own lunch and eat picnic style at FDS. (Only students may order a hot lunch.) Bring blankets or chairs to sit on the lawn and enjoy time with your family!

This week we learned more about liquid and gas matter: both of which have no shape of their own, but take the shape of the container they are in. We also had “liquid races” and did a number of experiments with air taking up space in balloons and under water!

Last Day of School: Please look for and sign the permission slip for this Play Day:
The last day of school is Friday, June 7.  Dismissal is at 12:45.  The 1st grade classes will join together for a “Play Day” where groups of students rotate through a variety of indoor and outdoor activities.  Students will want to dress appropriately for lots of movement and apply sunscreen at home if you think it’s needed for the extra outdoor play.
