First Grade Weekly Homework: April 16- 20, 2018

Sight Words:  means, old, any, same, tell (Practice reading words to know them by sight.) 

Sounds:  base words with inflections er, est and change y to i (happy, happier, silly, silliest, etc…) Practice these sounds.  Spell and read words with new and past letter sounds. 

Reading:  First grade student reads aloud to family every day. (About 15 minutes a day.) Students read the story, What Can you Do?, answer the questions, and return on Friday.  Read and reread the other stories attached to the homework. (Keep these stories at home.) Family reads aloud to student.  Enjoy your reading time together. J.

Spelling:  hard, harder, hardest, fast, faster, fastest, slow, slower, slowest, sooner (The test is on Friday, April 20.) 

Math:  Work on coin identification and count coins.  Have your son/daughter group coins for effective counting.  Work on telling time to the hour, half hour, and quarter hour.

Writing:  Our school rules are: Be safe. Be respectful. Be responsible.  Give examples telling what this looks like at snack recess.  Fill the page.  (Ex: We walk on the blacktop to be safe. We throw our trash away because we are responsible. We are respectful and listen to teachers the first time…) J

Skill of the Week:  Practice your good manners.  Use words like please, thank you, excuse me…let others go first…help others…share…J
